Persuasion Application - Larsen
1. The valid
artifact or public speech that I’ve chosen can be found here:
2. The speaker,
Mr. O’Reilly uses the possibility of success of Larsen’s Cultural Myths
to create a cognitive effect by providing that success comes to those who are
honest and work hard. Specifically, by stating that those who are qualified
will get better jobs, those who have social skills and those who understand how
to behave in the marketplace.
3. The process
premise that the artifact attempts to construct as a basis of persuasion is
that of attitudes. Specifically, one must change their attitude and mentality
on ability to secure success, I.E. a hard job unless you have very specific
attributes as listed in (2) and provided by the speaker. I believe overall the premise
fails to make the speakers point in that it is not supported with any facts but
merely conjecture based upon the speaker’s personal beliefs and biases.
Further, the speaker attempts to use emotions by appealing to his demographic
and citing opposing points of view as evidence to support his position thereby persuading
its viewers.
